Abstract: Halliburton, the US-based oil and gas exploration services provider, for a long time was known for the glorious achievements that placed it in the league of the world's best in the industry. The company was in the news recently, although for the wrong reasons. It was alleged that Halliburton was a beneficiary of its connections in the government and that it had overcharged the government for the services it provided. While the critics felt that the company benefited because Dick Cheney, Vice President of the United States, was the former CEO of Halliburton, the company defended itself saying that they got the contract not because of 'who they know' but because of 'what they know'. |
